Founding Research Program / Questions
Your questions, answered.
What to know about research support, project fit, data and working with PRISM.
01What does the $5 million represent?
Metriq is providing up to $5,000,000 in PRISM Research Credits across selected projects. The credits cover PRISM research services; they are not cash awards. Each award requires an agreed project scope, approval and available research capacity.
02What kind of laboratory is PRISM?
Metriq PRISM Laboratory is a computational research lab. We use mathematics, modeling, simulation, optimization, statistics, machine learning and software to investigate research questions and evaluate existing evidence. We do not perform wet-lab or physical experiments.
03Can a company apply?
Yes. Companies can apply through an Industry Research Partnership or another approved arrangement. These projects normally include co-funding and a clear public benefit or research results that others can examine. Fully private commercial work is handled as commissioned research.
04What if our question concerns biology, conservation or manufacturing?
Research about the physical world can still be computational. PRISM can model a system or analyze existing data and data you are authorized to share. If the project needs new measurements or experiments, a qualified external organization must carry them out under separate arrangements.
05Do we need a complete research plan?
No. Start with the question you need to answer, why it matters, what you’ve already tried and what data or evidence is available. We can help refine the research plan during review.
06Can we submit a confidential dataset?
Please keep the preliminary application nonconfidential. Describe your data, who owns it and any sharing restrictions without uploading protected information. Confidential data can be transferred later only after the required project, data, security and service-provider arrangements are approved. An NDA alone does not authorize the transfer.
07Are positive findings guaranteed?
No. You help define the question; the evidence determines the answer. Negative or inconclusive findings can still be useful when the research is carried out as agreed and the methods, evidence and limitations are clearly documented.
08Can we purchase research credits?
Yes, once your organization is approved for purchasing. Choose a package, review the credit terms and pay through Stripe or request offline payment. Each research project still needs an agreed scope and available research capacity; buying credits does not automatically approve a project.
09How does automated research fit?
Research agents can assist with administrative and document review. For explicitly authorized paid projects, they can also perform computational work and draft research, with independent human review before delivery. Fully grant-funded projects use agents for review assistance, not autonomous production of the research or final paper.
10Does applying create an award or transfer intellectual property?
No. An application asks PRISM to consider your project; it does not create an award or transfer intellectual property. Signed project agreements set the scope, fees, credit conditions, data permissions, intellectual property and publication terms.
